Changes

Life can sure throw you some curve balls. Just when you think you have everything all figured out, just when you think that you know the plan and the path you are on, everything changes. Anthony and I have both had some career set-backs and changes lately which have caused us to have to rethink and regroup.

My business, I Do Declare Boutique, had recently moved into the most perfect brick and mortar location. We worked really hard to make it look adorable and I can’t even tell you how happy it would make me every time I went in there. We just loved our perfect little space with wonderful light streaming through big windows and our gold polka dots on the walls.  The best thing was that business was picking up all the time! I loved meeting new customers everyday and I was so happy with how things were going.

Unfortunately, we had only been there a few months when the place was sold and all the tenants were given one months notice to move out.  Some of the vendors had been in that spot for years! Unfortunately we had also spent quite a bit of our seed money to get settled in to that spot and now it was all for nothing.

The disappointment was huge. I am still trying to regroup and figure where to go and what to do next. I am definitely NOT giving up on I Do Declare Boutique. I have loved this business more than anything I’ve ever done and have learned more than I ever imagined that I might. Literally nothing brightened up my life more than picking out clothing for women that would make them feel fabulous and confident. My goal is to have moved into a new, permanent brick and mortar location by this time next year.

As I continue to work behind the scenes to reopen I Do Declare Boutique I will also be exploring some additional opportunities that have recently come my way. I am excited about the possibilities!

Then there is I Do Declare Blog. I’ve been so sporadic lately because I’ve been questioning exactly what direction I want to go with it. As much as I love wearing and shopping for and selling adorable clothing I have to be honest that I don’t really love writing about fashion! Maybe because everything else in my life is about fashion it becomes a bit of fashion overload? Or maybe because I don’t want to give off the false illusion that I am always perfectly put together, because I am definitely not.

In addition, my real life people can confirm this, but I’m really not your typical fashion blogger. I love to get dressed up, but most of the time I’m running around in Nike shorts and T-shirts with my hair in a messy bun. I play sand volleyball as a hobby so my knees and elbows are often torn up and the floorboards of my old car are usually covered in sand…definitely not Instagram-able! I’m the girl out riding the boogie board for hours at the beach instead of sitting around looking pretty and you’ll probably never see me in fake lashes or hair extensions unless it’s a really, really special occasion. In fact, the last time I had on lashes that weren’t my own was my wedding day!

So while yes, I truly do love fashion, and getting fixed up, and being girly, I also love sports, and competing, and running a business.

My favorite hobby of all? And the one I hope to write about the most? Travel!  I LOVE to travel and to make travel plans.

Lately I’ve been writing about many different things. I wrote about being a Razorback fan, (which is getting harder all the time!) I’ve done some travel pieces about a trip to Naples, Florida, and I’ve written about some places of local interest.

Can I be honest? Writing about these types of things has been so much more enjoyable to me than writing about fashion. So, there you have it. I plan to take this blog in a direction that I feel is more representative of who I really am! I’ll still do fashion of course because it will always be a big part of my life, but you will see a lot more travel posts as well.

My  hope to be a travel blogger who occasionally wears cute clothes rather than a fashion blogger who occasionally travels! I want to show that anyone can travel, on any budget, in any stage of life, if you really want to make it happen.

With all that said, be prepared for Greece overload posts as my husband and I just returned from our two week adventure there and it was one of the most amazing places I have ever been in my life!

Thanks for reading! See you soon!

  1. Dear Emily,

In Greece we have a saying that whatever happens in Life happens for a reason. That when you find a wall in front of you, it is the universe testing you how passionate are you to break it! How much do you want it! And by doing so, usually we realize a million other opportunities that we had not thought about. When a door closes it is because another one is ready to get opened! The key is in your heart. You have to keep on believing in your dreams. Miracles get angry when you no longer believe in them… Do not let anything bring you down!
I loved how you realized that your true passion is to travel and how you want us to discover the world through YOUR eyes and not through your clothes. It is so much more “humane” & down to earth. It is so much more YOU from the little I have been following you.

Nothing in Life is stable, everything changes constantly just like the stars fall , just like the planets around us move, just like a flower blooms in its own time, just like some days you might have more inspiration than other ones.
Whatever you do, stay centered to yourself & follow what your instinct tells you. Listen to your Heart whispering the answers! It knows better…
I am certain that you will find the perfect spot for your little paradise boutique! But even if you do not… then something much more grandiose will come your way.

    BUT YOU HAVE TO BELIEVE!

I DO DECLARE that when you LIVE BY PASSIONS – Everything is possible!

Take care of yourselves but above all, stay in Love! It is your source of inspiration, of creativity, of breathing into Life, of having the best reason to LIVE!

I can’t wait to read your experience about Greece!!!

    Yours truly
