So I have decided to start a fun new series on the blog called “dressing room diaries.” I don’t know about y’all but so many times I see cute outfits to order online, but I am not sure how it will look on or fit me, so I get nervous about actually purchasing it. I wanted to start this series to show y’all cute things I have tried on or purchased and describe to you the fit, material, whether it runs true to size or not, etc. If I try on something that looks adorable on the hanger but absolutely heinous on me, I will also show you as a warning. Just taking one for the team…haha. Hopefully this will help make your online shopping a bit easier in the long run 🙂
I had a break between class and work today so I popped into one of my favorite Little Rock boutiques, E Leighs. I was on a mission to find casual, lightweight dresses for summer (because I really need more dresses in my wardrobe). First up, I tried on this black, off the shoulder baby doll dress ($49,99).
I really liked this dress and it was loose without being huge like some baby doll dresses! I am wearing a small in it and was pleasantly surprised with the length (I am 5’6 for reference)! I have seen it on some websites and thought it would be more like a tunic. I loved the shoulder cut-outs and how light the fabric was, but I decided it was a no-go only because I thought it would be too hot for Arkansas summers since it is black and long sleeved.
Second up was this adorable striped drop waist dress ($39.00). Spoiler alert: this one came home with me!
I love this dress for so many reasons! Striped, drop waist, comfortable, and can be worn so many different ways. Think white chucks and a denim jacket for daytime and wedges and statement jewelry for night. I was actually worried about this dress before I tried it on because it cuts in a little bit under the arms and has a higher neckline. While this style looks fabulous on some girls, it typically does not on me. I just hate when dresses or tops show that pesky under-arm fat (please tell me someone else has this same problem..). That being said, once I put this dress on I didn’t find the cut unflattering at all. If you are in the market for a striped sundress, this is for you! I know you’ll love it.
Don’t ask why I am making this face because I really couldn’t tell ya…just figured I needed to switch my mirror-selfie face up a little bit.
Since I am a stripe addict, I also tried this striped shift dress($30). I thought it was just so-so on me. I really liked the soft fabric, it reminded me of the brand Lou and Grey that is sold at the LOFT, if any of you have ever worn that before. I am wearing the small and feel like it runs true to size, it is also more fitted than the previous dress, just a heads up 🙂
What drew me to this last dress ($39.00) was the bright blue color at the bottom and the bold pattern.
It had a really nice silky fabric and a small removable belt to give it more of a waist. I actually really loved this dress but they only had a medium in the store and it was a little big on me underneath the arms. I think this would be so cute as an easy summer dress to wear out and about. It would look great with embellished sandals or cognac wedges! For a price tag of only $30 I think this dress is definitely a steal.
As I was leaving the store, I got suckered in by the $5 dollar jewelry rack at the check out counter. I’m weak people. I saw these bright colored earrings and had to snatch them up!
Well that’s all for today y’all! Let me know what you like and didn’t like, or if you have any questions! 🙂 Also, if you would like to order any of the items above you can always call into E. Leighs, or I have also linked up some of these items from other stores that you can order online from.
